O'Neil, Parker & Williamson, PLLC
The law firm of O'Neil, Parker & Williamson dates back to a beginning over eighty years ago. Early members of the firm were William P. O'Neil, Howard F. Jarvis and the Honorable Judge John Jennings. Judge Jennings was admitted to the bar in Tennessee in 1903. After serving as a Chancellor for a time, he served as the United States Congressman for the Second Congressional District of Tennessee from December 30, 1939, until January 3, 1951.
Ben W. Williamson, Jr. and Paul E. Parker were longtime members of the firm. Mr. O'Neil served as President of the Knoxville Bar Association in 1952 and Mr. Parker held that position in 1971. Mr. Williamson joined the firm in 1950 when the firm was known as Jennings, O'Neil & Jarvis. Noted for his masterful skills as a trial lawyer, Mr. Williamson remained active in the practice, as a lawyer and as a mentor for the younger members of the firm until his passing in May of 2005.
For a time, the Honorable James Howard Jarvis, II, son of Howard F. Jarvis, was a member of the firm. He practiced from his law school graduation in the early 1960s until 1970. Shortly thereafter, Judge Jarvis served as the Law & Equity Court judge for Blount County, Tennessee, before he was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.
The mainstay of the practice of the firm has been civil litigation in the state and federal courts of Tennessee. The firm has a strong foundation, forged from a rich and active tradition of hard work, professionalism and dedication to the best interests of clients.
The offices of the firm have been situated at 416 Cumberland Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee, for over forty years, with the exception of a two year period while the former headquarters for Whittle Communications were under construction in the late 1980s. The firm can be found in the northwest corner of the office complex, now known as the Howard H. Baker, Jr. United States Courthouse. |
