A. Ben Strand Jr.

Ben Strand, Jr., Of Counsel, came to O’Neil, Parker & Williamson in the fall of 2014. He is a retired General Sessions, Juvenile and Probate Judge for Jefferson County, Tennessee (1998-2014). Prior to being elected Judge, he practiced law with the firm of Strand & Goddard. His law practice was a general practice including personal injury, chancery, real estate, probate, criminal law, estate planning, elections law and liquor laws. Mr. Strand was also Circuit Judge of the old Second Judicial District (1975-1976). He will now mediate, arbitrate and provide assistance in other areas of the law.

Mr. Strand was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1967. He has also been admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Tax Court.

Mr. Strand is a past President of the Jefferson County Bar Association, a past President of the Tennessee General Judges Conference and a current member of the House of Delegates of the Tennessee Bar Association. He served as a County and School Commissioner for Jefferson County, Tennessee and was appointed by Governor Bill Bredesen to the Criminal Justice Coordination Council.

In his law practice, Mr. Strand handled all types of litigation and has appeared before both State and Federal Appellate Courts. He was in the first group to qualify as a mediator in the United States District Court for the the Eastern District of Tennessee and was one of the first Rule 31 Mediators in Tennessee both in the field of General and Family Law.

Mr. Strand had the task of representing an individual convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death on the appellate level. He also represented several local office holders including Judge, Sheriff and Circuit Court Clerk.

While a member of the Tennessee General Sessions and Juvenile Judges Conferences, Mr. Strand became very adept at legislative skills and kept the conferences informed of pending legal matters.
